Why Study Information
Systems & Management?
The study of Information Systems is not just a study of technology for
technology's sake. Rather, it considers broader issues of how information
is created and used in human affairs, and what the changes in such uses
imply for the organisation. The subject of Information Systems is
concerned with how organisations and societies use and exploit new
technologies for information handling and transmission, in particular the
computer. The introduction of technology can and does alter things, and
understanding the fundamental character of this technology is important,
however in the end it is understanding the active human world in which it
is deployed that is the main concern.
Bachelor of Science in Information Systems & Management
One primary focus of Information Systems has been within organisations,
and hence it is natural to combine the subject with the study of
management. Indeed many managers face the responsibility of analysing and
designing their own Information Systems or liaising closely with technical
specialists. It is therefore important that managers should have a
sustained understanding of how Information Systems are developed. The
Information Systems and Management degree has been tailored specifically
to address such issues.
CAREER PROSPECTS
This degree is suitable for those who are interested in a career
in managing information systems. It also supports a career in management
more generally and specifically in fields that are linked with information
management. It is acceptable in both public and private sectors and allows
for some career change and development between the two.
